SHIMMER

v. to shine with a soft tremulous or fitful light.

I was my Dad’s sidekick. I was the one in the workshop with him asking a million questions. He made things, but most often he repaired things.  People would bring him their broken antique porcelains, watches, jewelry, and clocks. He was always making things whole.

He exists for me now as a shimmer, a presence in my studio who comes and goes, who helps me sort through problems.

Shimmer is for him. A pane of glass shattered, a wine glass in pieces. Stitched together with flimsy silk and thread to make a map charting my time with him.
