DEATH SHOW ARTIST STATEMENT

cheryl schainfeld

Bodies are fragmented and disintegrating. Thoughts of impermanence and uncertainty exist. The figures are also burned/engraved into the surface which alludes to a desire for permanence. These conflicting thoughts come up often in my work. The scribbles/scars are metaphors for memories I want to reveal but not in a legible form. coming to terms with aging, loss and mortality is challenging and liberating. Transformation is inevitable but invigorating.
