ROB MOORE RETROSPECTIVE

An installment of The Rob Moore Project presented by Gallery VERY

may 4 - june 15, 2024

Rob Moore was an internationally recognized artist and beloved teacher who died of AIDS in 1992 at the age of 55. Despite an intense dedication to his art practice and 25-year professorship at the Massachusetts College of Art, Rob has remained in relative obscurity since his passing due to the AIDS crisis and pre-internet documentation. That being said, having directly influenced the lives of thousands of artists, many of whom are with us to this day, Rob’s presence can still be felt widely throughout the Boston art community and beyond. It is our goal to honor his legacy by making it visible and accessible.

With the help of Rob’s collectors, former students, and friends, Gallery VERY was able to mount the first retrospective exhibition of Rob’s work since 1993.

Our overarching initiative, The Rob Moore Project, encapsulates this retrospective as well as a website acting as a permanent digital archive memorializing all things Rob Moore—art, photos, ephemera, community interviews, and writing. The project aims to introduce Rob and his work to a new generation and reignite his reputation.

The Rob Moore Retrospective was thoughtfully covered by John Belmont in Artscope Magazine and Peter Murphy in the Boston Art Review.
